The Calcutta High Court has made a stern comment on the vandalism that occurred at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The court expressed concern over the incident and criticized the state machinery as completely ineffective. The court suggested that it might be better to close the hospital temporarily and shift the patients to other facilities.
On Wednesday night, a group of people entered the emergency department of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and caused extensive damage. The mob broke through police barricades near the hospital and vandalized the premises, destroying chairs and boards. This incident occurred while a large number of women were protesting on the streets of Kolkata, demanding justice for a junior doctor.
The Calcutta High Court’s comments today were stern, condemning the state machinery’s failure to prevent the vandalism. The court advised that closing the hospital temporarily and relocating patients would be a preferable solution.
According to police reports, 30-40 youths were involved in the vandalism, but their identities have not been confirmed. Notably, the vandalism occurred in the presence of police, raising concerns about whether this was a planned attempt to divert attention from the peaceful protest by women. Additionally, the mob also dismantled the protest stage.
