Sony Entertainment Channel is undergoing a major revamp, as popular shows like Aapka Apna Zakir, Kavya, and Jubilee Talkies are being taken off air. Replacing these shows will be a mix of classic fan-favorites like CID and Crime Patrol, as well as reality show hits such as India’s Best Dancer and Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) 16.

  • All existing fiction shows on Sony TV are being discontinued
  • India’s Best Dancer and Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 will remain on air
  • Classics like CID and Crime Patrol are set to make a comeback

Gaurav Banerjee, formerly with Star India, recently took charge of Sony Network, and his first bold move is a complete overhaul of Sony TV’s content lineup. According to sources close to IndiaToday.in, the transformation will take place by the end of the year, with the creative team working hard to refresh the channel’s content and reconnect with its audience. The goal is to carve out a unique identity for Sony TV.

Fiction shows like Kavya – Ek Jazbaa, Ek Junoon, Pukaar – Dil Se Dil Tak, and Jubilee Talkies have already ceased production and will air their final episodes soon. Fans of Zakir Khan’s much-anticipated comedy-chat show Aapka Apna Zakir were shocked when the show was abruptly canceled. Despite launching with excitement in August, the show failed to resonate with viewers. Production was halted when Zakir Khan became ill, and the decision to cancel it followed soon after. While it was always planned as a finite series, its short run of only about a month surprised many.

So, what will Sony TV air next? The answer lies in its classic lineup. Iconic shows like CID and Crime Patrol are making a strong return, and the religious drama Mere Sai has also made its comeback. Reruns of these shows are reportedly performing better than new originals, proving that this strategy is working. The team is even working on reviving CID with new episodes, which will bring back the beloved detective drama.

For now, India’s Best Dancer (IBD), Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) 16, and the upcoming season of Indian Idol will continue to entertain viewers. Sources say that IBD and KBC are drawing good numbers, and Sony TV is leveraging this success as they move forward with the redesign. As Sony TV implements these changes, time will reveal if this new strategy successfully draws back its audience.
