What Happened to Reeve in 1995?

In 1995, during a competition, Christopher Reeve’s horse suddenly stopped while crossing the third hurdle, causing Reeve to be thrown forward. The reins remained in his hands and got stuck. Reeve landed on his head, breaking the first and second vertebrae, which support the head.

Due to the spinal cord injury, he stopped breathing. It took the paramedics about 3 minutes to arrive. Their first priority was to get air into Reeve’s lungs. Five days later, Reeve regained consciousness. Doctors informed him that his spine was completely damaged, and he would only be able to breathe with the help of a ventilator.
